oh, hello

Hi! My name is Marina. I am 23, and am a self-taught abstract artist from Metro Detroit. I love animals, all things fun and cute, and the Ocean.

Since I was a little kid, I was intrigued by the Sea. Maybe it was because I loved the water from a young age, or because I thought fish were the coolest animals to exist (thought and still think I am one btw), but I quickly became Michigan’s biggest, and youngest Ocean lover.

I have always been creative, and was drawn to art and design for as long as I can remember, but never could find my niche. That was, until I tried my hand in clay for the first time as a sophomore in high school. It was love at first coil pot, and I felt at home creating ocean-inspired art.

I then went on to Michigan State University, and pursued a degree in the Science of Packaging while swimming competitively for the school. I was a busy bee balancing school and practices, but was hungry to create and make. After a year of drawing and painting on my dorm room floor, I knew that I needed art back in my life, so I applied to add on a minor in Design to my degree. Through my minor, I was able to broaden my artistic horizons by taking classes in color theory, graphic design, and typography, which finally led me back to my true love, Ceramics. Something about working in clay is so freeing and magical and indescribably AWESOME- I encourage everyone to try working it at least once in their lives. I loved taking ceramics at the college level because I was able able to make my own clay body from raw materials, formulate my own glaze recipes, and design my own line of work without the restrictions of an assigned project. Through ceramics I truly started to grow as an artist, and was able to push my creative boundaries.

Before I knew it I was graduating college and packing up my life (and bb bunny Alfie, I LOVE YOU ALFIE) to move to Columbus, Ohio to start my very first real person job. After settling in to my Columbus apartment and acclimating to my new life, the familiar itch to create reared its cute little head. I needed to be able to work within the confines of my small one-bedroom, so I knew that ceramics was going to be out of the picture for the time being.

While I was sad at first, it led me into the world of fluid art! After weeks of research, I tried my first flow painting and was hooked. Even though I still have a lot to learn, I am having so much fun experimenting, and am always looking forward to working on my next project. Stay tuned my friends!
